Marek Alscher Joins Winterhawks in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Man. - The Portland Winterhawks today announced that defenseman Marek Alscher has returned to the club in Winnipeg, Man. and is eligible to begin playing immediately.

Alscher spent the last three weeks skating with Czechia's Under-20 National Team at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship in Halifax, N.S. and Moncton, N.B.

The second-year Winterhawk was named to Czechia's reserve list ahead of ahead of his country's first tournament game on December 26, making him eligible to play if someone on the 23-man roster got injured.

Alscher played a few exhibition contests during preliminary camp, but he did not appear in an official tournament game. The Florida Panthers prospect will be eligible to play for his country again in the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Following a 3-2 overtime loss against Canada on January 5, Czechia claimed its first ever silver medal at the event and its first medal since 2005.

Alscher has appeared in 26 games this season with the Winterhawks, scoring six goals and five assists.
