Gennaro Scores Twice in 3-2 Overtime Triumph

ESTERO, Fla. - The Everblades (41-20-6-4) prevailed in overtime for the fourth time of the season on Friday night after defeating the Atlanta Gladiators (43-23-4-1) 3-2 at Hertz Arena.

Sanghoon Shin scored on Atlanta's second shot of the game, collecting a loose puck in the crease and ripping his rebound past Blades goaltender Parker Gahagen. Gabe Guertler earned the assist to put the Gladiators up 1-0 at the end of one period.

At 6:51 of the second period, Florida's Matteo Gennaro skated into the offensive zone on a delayed penalty and drove home a backhand shot which evened the game at one. Xavier Bernard (9:07) found a power play response for the Gladiators on a point shot as Atlanta jumped in front 2-1.

The Blades would go on to tie the score at 2-2 courtesy of Jake Jaremko, who cashed in on a redirect. Alex Aleardi and Ben Masella were named the helpers at the 8:39 mark of the third period. The final stanza saw no additional goals as the Everblades and Gladiators went to overtime against each other for the third time this season. Just 2:02 into the extra portion of play, Gennaro hit the top shelf of the net from the slot to clinch the 3-2 Everblades victory.

The Everblades round out the 2021-22 regular season with a rematch tomorrow, April 16 against the Gladiators at 7:00 pm. With warm weather year-round, it's always tailgating season in Southwest Florida! Every Saturday home matchup this season will kick off with a free pregame tailgate party! Come out to Hertz Arena early and tailgate from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The April 16 tailgate party will feature live music by A Few Rough Edges! Fans can also enjoy fan appreciation night with giveaways all night along and a team photo giveaway presented by FGCU!

Also, the Everblades host Pink in the Rink presented by Radiology Regional on Saturday, April 16. The Blades will don specialty pink jerseys during the game versus the Atlanta Gladiators. 4 Words Foundation is dedicated to helping with cancer awareness, education and patient financial assistance will be the recipient of the specialty jersey's proceeds from the auction!
