South Carolina Stingrays News Release

THE MATCHUP

The South Carolina Stingrays visit the Adirondack Thunder for a second straight night. The Stingrays claimed a 5-1 win at the Glens Falls Civic Center last night. Colin Mulvey (2), Andrew Rowe, Brendan Ellis and Jared Staal scored, while goaltender Mark Dekanich stopped 30 shots to help the Stingrays jump the Thunder in the Eastern Conference standings.

MIGHTY MULVEY

Earlier this season, Colin Mulvey was trying to make sure he was in the lineup on a nighly basis. Now, he's a regular and is the club's leading goal scorer. Mulvey notched a pair of goals last night, including his team-leading 10th goal. Mulvey has back-to-back two goal games for the Stingrays.

STAAL-ED NO LONGER

After scoring just one goal in his first 20 games this season, forward Jared Staal has been kicking it into gear of late. The forward has three goals in his past six contests including a highlight reel goal in last night's 5-1 win. Staal has eight points on the season, just three shy of his professional high of 11.

POWERED UP POWER PLAY

After two power play goals last night, South Carolina's power play has a goal in seven straight games, dating back to the club's 4-1 loss to Florida on December 19. In that stretch, the Stingrays are 8-for-26 on the power play, converting at 30.8%

PENALTY KILL PERFECTION

In the past three games, South Carolina is a perfect 14-for-14 on the penalty kill. With a recent string of success, South Carolina's penalty kill is now denying 87.3% of opponents chances on the power play, good for second in the league.

RAYS GREATS MEET IN BENCH BOSS BATTLE

The battle behind the benches this weekend features a pair of former Stingrays greats on and off the ice. Adirondack Head Coach Cail MacLean played three seasons with the Stingrays from 2005-2008, scoring 63 goals and 63 assists in 169 career games. He moved behind the bench as an Assistant Coach in 2008-2009, and served as the Head Coach from 2009-2011. South Carolina Head Coach Spencer Carbery played for MacLean from 2008-2010, and served as an assistant coach on MacLean's staff during the 2010-2011 season. Following MacLean's departure to the Abbotsford Heat, Carbery was named South Carolina's Head Coach.
