NORFOLK, Va. - Dean Ouellet scored twice and Gabriel Verpaelst's second effort in overtime led the Norfolk Admirals to a 3-2 victory versus the Cincinnati Cyclones Saturday night at Scope Arena.

Cincinnati struck first during a four-on-three power play. As forward Jack Downing waited near the hash marks, Mike Hammond carried the puck into the right circle. Hammond's feed crossed through the slot and Downing's slap shot hit the back of the Norfolk net at 9:55 in the opening frame.

The Admirals answered at 8:18 in the second period when center Dean Ouellet scored his first goal as an Admiral. Jonathan Lessard traveled out of the neutral zone and found Tommy Mele at the top of the right circle. Mele's shot deflected low off Cyclone goaltender Brandon Whitney's right pad, but Ouellet was there to collect the rebound and even the score, 1-1.

In the third period, Downing scored his second of the contest to put Cincinnati back in the lead. After Steve Weinstein sent the puck behind the net to Zach Budish's stick. Downing received a pass from Budish from behind the Admirals' net and his wrister near the hash marks hit the twine at 5:05.

Norfolk goalie Nic Riopel left the ice with more than a minute left for the extra attacker. Admirals defenseman Ben Betker threw a shot into traffic in front, and Ouellet finished off the loose puck to tie the game at 2-2 with 58.4 seconds remaining in regulation. A three-on-three overtime ensued.

During extra session, winger Alexandre Ranger crossed into Cincinnati's zone and shot from the left circle. Whitney denied Ranger's shot as well as defenseman Gabriel Verpaelst's putback attempt before Verpaelst tried again, firing a wrister past Whitney at 3:29 for the 3-2 win.

Nic Riopel turned away 36 out of 38 shots on net, while Cincinnati's Brandon Whitney managed to save 34 out of 37. The Admirals were scoreless on three power plays, and the Cyclone's converted one out of six man advantages.

The Admirals will head to Glen Falls Civic Center to face the Adirondack Thunder Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
