Monarchs Game Day Capsule

January 9, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

WHERE WE STAND

The Monarchs head into Saturday night in sole possession of first place in the East Division with 45 points, leading Adirondack (42 pts.) and Elmira (40 pts.) for the division lead. Manchester's 45 points are good for second in the Eastern Conference, behind only the South Division leading Florida Everblades (50 pts), and third in the ECHL.

DIVISION COLLISION

Manchester will close out the first week of 2016 with a Friday and Saturday night matchup against fellow East Division rival, the Elmira Jackals. The Monarchs are 2-1-0-1 against the Jackals this season and will look to improve upon that record tonight.

LEADING THE WAY

Matt Leitner continues to lead the Monarchs in scoring with 33 points on eight goals and 25 assists and is tied for first place amongst ECHL rookies in points and is tied for fourth overall in the ECHL in points. Leitner's 25 assists lead all rookies. Maxim Kitsyn remains second on the Monarchs roster in scoring after his two-goal night with 24 points (13g, 11a) and Yann Sauvé has crept into the top-three with his 21 points.

SHOOT EARLY, SHOOT OFTEN

On the season, Manchester is 19-4-0-2 when outshooting the opposition and 2-7-0-0 when being outshot. The Monarchs have outshot Elmira in each of their four matchups this season, outshooting the Jackals by a combined margin of 181-127. The Monarchs put 49 shots on goal last night in their 6-1 victory, setting a new season high in SOG, beating their previous record of 47, also against Elmira.

GRABBING POINTS

The Monarchs have been taking points at a steady pace since the end of November, vaulting them into first place in the East Division. In their past 20 games, the Monarchs have taken points in 15 of those contests, earning an 12-5-0-3 record.

LOOKING FORWARD

The Monarchs will get a week off from playing games, as they will return to the ice Saturday, Jan. 16, when they welcome the Norfolk Admirals to the Jungle. Manchester will look to improve on their 5-0-0-0 record against their division foes over the course of a two-game series.
