Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - Garrett Klotz scored his first goal of the season but Doug Carr's goaltending stifled the Jackals in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Manchester Monarchs.
Former Jackal Matt Harlow started the scoring with his first goal of the season coming at 15:24 of the opening frame. Michael Boivin fired the puck from the top of the zone and Harlow was in the slot for the redirection past C.J. Motte. Mark Anthoine earned the secondary helper.
Neither team scored in the second frame, but the physicality picked up and tensions started to rise. After going through the first frame without a penalty call, the second period saw multiple fighting majors and a game misconduct. At 7:27 Colin Jacobs jabbed his stick into Alex Roach prompting an altercation and in addition to the fighting major, Jacobs was handed a five-minute major penalty for spearing and a game misconduct. The Jackals valiantly killed off the five-minute penalty kill thanks in part to a penalty called against Manchester due to Chris Langkow's hustle and effort.
The contest remained a 1-0 game heading into the third period and was quickly tied by Garrett Klotz. Spiro Goulakos moved the puck to Tyler Currier who fed it out of the corner to Klotz who was stationed in the high slot and ripped a wrist shot top shelf past Doug Carr. Manchester regained its lead four minutes later with Mark Anthoine's first goal of the season as he accepted a feed from Matt Harlow for a quick shot past Motte. Anthoine notched his second goal 1:33 later with a quick shot bar-down to increase the Monarchs lead to two goals. Matt Harlow added the empty-net tally at 17:40 for his second goal of the night to seal the win for the Monarchs.
C.J. Motte stopped 39 of 42 shots faced but was handed the tough luck loss. Doug Carr turned aside 42 of 43 shots faced to earn the win.
