ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Ji-Hwan Bae launched a two-run homer to take an early lead and the Indians did not look back as they earned a series-opening victory over the Clippers on Tuesday night, 5-2. The lead was secure as starting pitcher Bryse Wilson earned his fifth win in six starts with just one run allowed in 5.0 innings. A leadoff double by the Indians newest major league rehabber, Greg Allen, led to the eventual game-winning run scoring in the fifth inning. Wilson was followed by Mike Burrows, who in just the second relief outing of his career, spun 2.0 hitless innings with four strikeouts. Cal Mitchell led the offensive charge with three hits - including a double and two RBI. Five of the 10 hits collected by Indy went for extra bases.
THE BRYSE IS RIGHT: Bryse Wilson continued his winning ways on Tuesday night, picking up his fifth win of the season for Indy. Following an impressive four starts that earned him June Player of the Month honors, the 24-year-old picked up right where he had left off during last night's start. He tossed 5.0 one-run innings last night to lower his ERA to 2.97 (12er/36.1ip). Wilson is now 5-0 in six starts and the Indians have been victorious in all six games in which he appearances. After surrendering four earned runs in his first start with Indy on May 28, the righty has allowed two runs or less in his last five starts. He boasts a 1.05 WHIP with 34 strikeouts compared to only six walks.
MITCHELL DOESN'T MISS: Cal Mitchell went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI last night and has now hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games with a .379 average (25-for-66), seven doubles and 15 RBI. Last night was his fifth three-hit performance and 15th multi-hit game of the season. He's been a hitting machine for the Indians this season, hitting safely in 36 of his 45 Triple-A games with a .327 average (55-for-168), .500 slugging percentage and .875 OPS. He recorded an 11-game hitting streak from 5/17-7/4, the second-longest streak among Indians batters this season, with a .419 average (18-for-43) and .934 OPS. He also recorded a seven-game RBI streak from 4/5-13, which is the third-longest streak in the International League this season.
AYE BAE BAE: Ji-Hwan Bae cashed in his 25th multi-hit game of the season in last night's win. He went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double. His homer last night put him up to eight home runs on the season, which ties his career-high for most home runs after he hit eight last season between Double-A Altoona (7) and FCL Pirates (1). Bae is the first Indians player to hit eight home runs and collect 20 stolen bases since Alen Hanson in 2016 and the seventh Indians player since 2005 to achieve this feat. The other six players are also listed below:
Ji-Hwan Bae (2022): 8 HR, 20 SB
Alen Hanson (2016): 8 HR, 36 SB
Felix Pie (2013): 8 HR, 38 SB
Starling Marte (2012): 12 HR, 21 SB
Alex Presley (2011): 8 HR, 22 SB

TONIGHT: The Indians will look to continue their recent success against the Clippers at 7:05 PM ET. With last night's victory, the Indians have won four of their last five matchups against the Clippers and lead the season series, 8-5. Seven of the 12 games in their season series have been decided by two runs or less. Tonight, Miguel Yajure will take the bump for the Indians in his ninth appearance (eighth start) and RHP Xzavion Curry will counter for Columbus. Curry has made two Triple-A starts since being called up from Double-A Akron on June 29 and is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA (6er/11.0ip) with 14 strikeouts.
YAHOO: RHP Miguel Yajure is coming off his best performance of the season and will take the bump tonight against the Clippers. In his last start on July 8 against Iowa, he went a season-high 5.0 innings and surrendered only one run on three hits, no walks and six strikeouts. Yajure has one career appearance against the Clippers on June 8. He took the loss after surrendering one run on two hits and a walk.
THIS DATE IN 2013: After the Indians' July 10 game at Huntington Park was suspended, Columbus and Indy picked up where they left off three days later at Victory Field and battled out a 16-inning game that lasted 5 hours and 32 minutes. Down 4-3 entering the ninth, Jared Goedert hit a solo home run to tie the game. The teams traded runs in the 14th and 15th innings before Indy put up three runs in the 16th inning behind a two-run home run by Brian Bocock. The Indians had 19 hits to Columbus' eight with seven players recording two-plus knocks, including a game-high four by first baseman Jerry Sands.
