LHP Marcelo Martinez (2-4, 6.28) vs. LHP Carson Teel (2-1, 4.91)
PARTY LIKE IT'S 1990: The Rochester Red Wings stormed past the Omaha Storm Chasers, 5-2, in the series opener, and their first game versus Omaha since 1990, Tuesday night...CF Andrew Stevenson was responsible for three of Rochester's runs yesterday, blasting a three-run shot and recording a multi-hit and multi-RBI game...RF Nick Banks and 3B Jake Alu contributed with a hit and an RBI each with Alu lining a double in his first Triple-A plate appearance...RHP Cade Cavalli tossed 3.2 innings while surrendering just one unearned run on two hits, punching out six Storm Chasers in the process...RHP Curtis Taylor, LHP Francisco Perez, LHP Alberto Baldonado and RHP Tyler Clippard came on in relief and combined for eight strikeouts while surrendering just one earned run on two hits...the Rochester Red Wings send LHP Carson Teel to the bump today who will be opposed by Omaha LHP Marcelo Martinez.
#1 FOR A REASON: RHP Cade Cavalli went 3.2 innings, scattering just two hits, and allowing an unearned run...the Nationals' top prospect has not allowed an earned run in back-to-back starts (10.2 consecutive innings)...the righty struck out six of the 13 batters he faced in tonight's contest.
IT'S JUST AN ALU-SION: 3B Jake Alu lined a go-ahead RBI double in his first triple-A plate appearance...the 25-year-old went into the game leading the Nationals organization in doubles with 25 this season.
DAD STRENGTH: CF Andrew Stevenson hit a three-run blast to right field in the bottom of the second to give Rochester a 4-0 lead...the home run was Stevenson's first since being reactivated off the paternity list, his last coming on June 23 (vs SYR, 10 games between HRs)...the former LSU Tiger now has seven long-balls this year, five of which have come at Frontier Field.
THE FOUR HORSEMEN: RHP Curtis Taylor, LHP Francisco Perez, LHP Alberto Baldonado, and RHP Tyler Clippard combined to go 5.1 innings, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run...Baldonado and Clippard recorded the last six outs, striking out the side in the eighth and ninth, respectively...Clippard earned his first save of the year in the win with his last coming on June 15, 2009 (39 Triple-A appearances between saves)...the veteran has 74 career saves in the Big Leagues.
PUSHING P(ALACIOS): OF Josh Palacios went 1-for-3 in the series opener versus Omaha...the former Auburn Tiger extended his on-base streak to 20 games (since 6/19), which is the second-longest active on-base streak in the International League and the longest on-base streak this season among Wings hitters.
If Palacios reaches base in the next two games, the lefty will have the longest on-base streak by a Wing since Zander Wiel logged 22 games on the base paths in 2019 (8/11-9/2/2019).
WE TAKE ONE: Last night's win was Rochester's first in a series opener since May 24 (v SYR)...the Red Wings had lost six-straight series openers prior to yesterday...the club now holds a 5-10 record in series openers.
TWO-OUT WARRIORS: All five of Rochester's runs in yesterday's win came via the two-out variety...3B Jake Alu (1), RF Nick Banks (1) and CF Andrew Stevenson (3) provided the Wings with two-out RBIs...the Red Wings lead the International League in batting average (.264, 248-for-941) with two outs.
DRIVING OFF THE TEELERSHIP: LHP Carson Teel will get the start today as Rochester looks to win the first two games of a series since May 10-11 (at WOR)...Teel has made two spot-starts for Rochester this year, going four innings while allowing just one earned run in both outings, good for a 2.25 ERA as a starter this season...the 26-year-old will make his first start at Frontier Field tonight.
