ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indianapolis Indians couldn't overcome a strong offensive start from the St. Paul Saints, who piled up 15 hits to end the Indians' five-game winning streak in the series opener at CHS Field on Tuesday night, 11-3. The Saints jumped out to a first inning lead when two-hitting shortstop Michael Helman plated second basemen Edouard Julien with an RBI double down the left-field line. Helman struck again in the third against reigning International League Pitcher of the Week Caleb Smith, connecting on a three-run home run to extend the St. Paul lead to 4-0. St. Paul put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth with a four-run inning, highlighted by a three-run double from Trevor Larnach. After being kept off the board in the first six frames, the Indians cracked the scoring column in the seventh with an RBI triple from center fielder Chavez Young. An inning later, Young secured a multi-hit game with a single to right field, plating both right fielder Cal Mitchell and first basemen Aaron Shackelford to account for all three Indianapolis runs scored.

YOUNG MAKES PLAYS: Chavez Young went 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI, a walk and a stolen base in yesterday's loss. He drove in all three of Indianapolis' runs in his third multi-hit game of the season and third consecutive game that he has hit safely. Along with his nice night at the plate, he threw out a Saints runner at the plate to save a run in the first inning. Last night's stolen base was his ninth this season, which leads the team, no one else has more than four stolen bases.

SHACKELFORD GETS ON: Aaron Shackelford went 1-for-3 last night with a walk, extending his on-base streak to 11 games. The 26-year-old has a .443 on-base percentage this season - ranking 10th among International League qualifiers - and has reached base safely in 23 of 25 games this season. Last week (5/2-7), he leads the International League in batting average (.533), on-base percentage (.667), slugging-percentage (1.200) and OPS (1.867). Since April 18, he is hitting .388 (19-for-49) with nine runs, four doubles, a triple, two home runs, seven RBI, 1O walks, .500 OBP, .694 SLG and 1.194 OPS. He is currently tied with Vinny Capra for the most walks on the team with 18. The left-handed slugger is well on pace to surpass his career-high 40 walks from 2022.

TRIP TRIP TRIPLES: Chavez Young smacked his second triple of the season on Tuesday night. The Indians now have 13 total triples on the season - 11 different players have notched a three bagger this season - which leads the International League in triples and ranks third in professional baseball, trailing the Salt Lake Bees (15) and Reno Aces (19). Nick Gonzales and Travis Swaggerty and Young lead the team in triples with two apiece and are also tied for the second-most triples in the IL. The Indians led the IL in triples in 2022 with 44, led by Swaggerty (8) and Ji Hwan Bae (6). The team clubbed 26 of its 44 triples last season at Victory Field.

STRATTON CLEARS: Hunter Stratton came in relief of Indians starter Caleb Smith with two runners on with two outs on Tuesday, escaping the inning without any further damage in the Saints four-run fourth. The 26-year-old tossed 1.1 scoreless relief innings, allowing three hits and punching out three Saints hitters. He has become one of the most dependable arms in the backend of the Indians pitching staff, he owns a 2.35 ERA (4er/15.1ip) with 24 strikeouts and has only allowed one earned run in his last eight appearances. Stratton has been most effective at striking out opponents, registering a 14.09 K/9 rate.

PERDOMO SITS 'EM DOWN: Angel Perdomo entered in relief of Osvaldo Bido on Saturday night and tossed 2.0 scoreless frames, allowing two hits, one walk and a season-high five strikeouts. After allowing three runs without recording an out on April 14 vs. St. Paul, he has strung together some strong outings. In his last seven relief appearances, he owns a 1.04 ERA (1er/8.2ip) with five hits allowed, five walks, 12 strikeouts and 1.15 WHIP. Perdomo was signed by Pittsburgh as a minor league free agent on Feb. 9, 2023. He is tied with fellow southpaw Daniel Zamora for the most relief appearances by an Indians reliever this season (13).

TONIGHT: The Indians and Saints will matchup for the second game of their six-game set tonight at 7:37 PM ET at CHS Field. The Indians are 5-2 just past the midway point of their two-week road trip, taking five of six at Toledo and dropping Tuesday night's series opener at St. Paul. The Saints took four of six games in their first meeting at Victory Field from April 11-16. Tonight, top Pirates pitching prospect Quinn Priester (2-3, 5.96) gets the ball against St. Paul's right-hander José De León (0-1, 3.27). De León made three appearances (one start) against Indy in their first series, he didn't allow a run in 5.0 innings.

PRIESTER DAY: Right-hander Quinn Priester will make his seventh start of the season tonight against St. Paul at CHS Field at 7:37 PM ET. The 22-year-old has a 5.96 ERA (17er/25.2ip), 29 strikeouts and 1.36 WHIP this season. He is coming off his best start of the season on May 4 at Toledo, when he tossed 6.0-shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. In his first start against St. Paul on April 15, he struck out a season-high nine batters. As the former 18th overall selection by Pittsburgh in 2019, he is currently rated as the Pirates No. 5 prospect (Baseball America) and the second-best pitcher behind Luis Ortiz (No. 4). Priester finished last season with a 3.29 ERA (33er/90.1ip) overall between Double-A Altoona and a short stint with Indy en route to being honored as the Young Bucs Bob Friend Pitcher of the Year, given to the top-performing minor league pitcher in Pittsburgh's organization.

THIS DATE IN 1984: Mike Stenhouse recorded the fourth three-homer game in franchise history vs. Evansville at Bush Stadium. In a 17-4 victory for the Indians, Stenhouse went 3-for-5 with a team-leading eight RBI. Ron Johnson hit a home run of his own, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and five runs scored. Right-hander Greg Bargar went the distance and struck out 11 batters to earn the win. Stenhouse spent 27 games with Indianapolis in 1984, hitting .333 (31-for-93) with eight home runs and 27 RBI.
