May 10, 2023 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings fell to the Worcester Red Sox 6-2 Wednesday night at Innovative Field despite out-hitting Worcester 10-8.
The Wings got on the board early when CF Derek Hill scored on an error before the Red Sox responded in the third with a solo home run, tying the game, 1-1.
3B Carter Kieboom hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the third, coming off the bat at 106.3 MPH, to left field, to restore the Wings' one-run lead. Since returning to the Red Wings lineup Tuesday after being optioned by Washington, the former first rounder has logged a homer, double, and two singles in his two games.
The Red Sox hit a three-run home run en route to a four-run eighth inning where they took a 5-2 lead. Worcester scored one run in the top of the ninth and the Wings failed to cross the plate in the bottom half, falling 6-2.
RHP Wily Peralta (0-2, 4.81) started for Rochester and earned a quality start, striking out 10 batters and allowing one run on two hits in six innings of work. This marks back-to-back quality starts for the Wings after RHP Cory Abbott delivered one on Tuesday.
LHP Jose Ferrer, RHP Jordan Weems and LHP Matt Cronin combined for the final three innings, allowing five runs while striking out two. RHP Andrew Politi (4-1) earned the win for Worcester.
RHP Wily Peralta was named the Diamond Pro Player of Game after earning the team's third quality start of the year while striking out 10 batters in his six innings of work. Wednesday night was the seventh time in Peralta's professional career that he logged 10+ strikeouts, the last coming on 8/30/16 with Milwaukee.
The Wings are back in action Thursday evening at Innovative Field where they will try to pick up their first win against an opponent starting a left handed pitcher as LHP Brandon Walter (0-2, 5.16) gets the ball for Worcester. RHP Paolo Espino (1-1, 0.82) makes his fourth start of the year, searching for his second consecutive win. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
