
Funkhouser Strong and Long Balls Power SeaWolves to a Series Win

The SeaWolves built an early lead and went on to win their third straight game, taking down the Altoona Curve on Wednesday afternoon at PNG Field by a 7-4 final.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the top of the second against Altoona starter Domingo Robles. Frank Schwindel led off the frame and blasted his fifth home run to give Erie a 1-0 lead.
The 'Wolves added to the lead in the sixth. Daniel Pinero singled with two outs for his first hit of the series. Kody Eaves followed and crushed a two-run home run, his team-leading 12th, over the wall in right for a 3-0 advantage.
Erie starter Kyle Funkhouser began his outing with five scoreless frames before allowing the Curve to get on the board in the sixth. Mitchell Tolman was hit by a pitch with two outs and he came home to score on a Chris Sharpe double to make it a 3-1 game.
The SeaWolves extended the lead in the eighth against reliever Beau Sulser. Isaac Paredes led off with double and Schwindel walked with one out. Pinero then blasted his ninth home run of the season and the three-run blast put Erie ahead 6-1. Eaves followed with a single and that spelled the end of the day for Sulser. Josh Lester grounded out, advancing Eaves into scoring position for Sergio Alcantara. Alcantara singled home Eaves for a 7-1 lead.
Altoona struck for three in the ninth against reliever Zac Houston but the Erie righty was able to retire final three batters he faced, preserving the win.
Funkhouser (2-1) earned the win in a quality start. He allowed a run on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts in seven innings. Funkhouser has now won consecutive starts.
Robles (2-4) took the loss for the Curve allowing three runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts in seven innings.
The SeaWolves return to UPMC Park on Thursday as they host the Trenton Thunder in doubleheader action beginning at 5:05 p.m. Game one features LHP Tarik Skubal (0-1, 0.56 ERA) against RHP Nick Green (1-3, 8.05 ERA). Game two is RHP Anthony Castro (3-2, 4.43 ERA) against RHP Janson Junk (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
THURSDAY, JULY 25 - Gates open at 4 p.m. | First pitch at 5:05 p.m.
Doubleheader: The SeaWolves will take on Trenton in a twin bill beginning at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be seven-inning games and one ticket is good for both games.
