Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves completed a doubleheader sweep of the Altoona Curve on Tuesday night at PNG Field, taking game two 3-1.
Erie broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning against Altoona starter Nick Economous. Derek Hill singled with one out and Isaac Paredes followed with a mammoth home run over the wall in left-center for a 2-0 lead. The home run for Paredes was his eighth of the season.
Erie added to the lead in the sixth. Daniel Pinero walked with two outs to keep the inning going for Josh Lester. Lester pounded an RBI double to the wall in right-center, scoring Pinero from first for a 3-0 lead.
The lone Altoona run came in the home half of the sixth against Erie reliever Drew Carlton. Jared Oliva blooped a double into right field with one out and moved to third on a Robbie Glendinning base hit. Arden Pabst singed home Oliva with two outs to make it 3-1. Carlton would get out of the jam with a fly out to left as the Curve left the tying run on base.
Carlton came back out for the seventh and gave up a leadoff single to Alfredo Reyes. He then retired the next three hitters, recording his 11th save in as many chances.
Erie starter Logan Shore (4-7) was on point from the outset. He faced the minimum through the first two innings and allowed just three hits over five scoreless frames. He walked a pair and struck out four in a winning effort. Shore has not allowed an earned run in his past 13 innings of work against Altoona.
Economous (0-1) took the loss in his Double-A debut allowing three runs on four this with three walks and seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
The SeaWolves look for the series win on Wednesday afternoon at 12 p.m. RHP Kyle Funkhouser (1-1, 2.53 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Domingo Robles (2-3, 5.15 ERA).
