Ponies Rally Falls Short in Series Finale against Fightins'

Reading, PA - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies late-innings rally came up short as they fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 8-6 in the series finale at FirstEnergy Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The two teams split the four-game series over three days and Reading takes the season-series four games to two.

Reading got off to a hot start against RHP Tony Dibrell with a 4-run first inning and 2-run second. The Fightins first six runs all came after there were two outs and nobody on in each inning. Binghamton got on the board with a solo homer from Gavin Cecchini in the second and a Quinn Brodey solo shot to right in the fourth.

Darick Hall though hit his second homer in as many days with a long two-run homer to right in the fourth to put the Fightins up 8-2. Hall finished the game 2-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, along with two walks.

Binghamton responded in the seventh with a two-run homer from Jason Krizan, his 10th of the year. They also scored two in the ninth and had the tying runs at second and third with two outs before Addison Russ struck out Luis Carpio swinging to end the game.

Dibrell (0-2) allowed eight runs over three and two thirds issuing five walks and striking out four in the loss. Reading starter Jose Taveras (3-0) allowed two runs over five to get the win.

The Ponies finish their eight-game road trip through Akron and Reading at 5-3. They finish a stretch of 13 of their last fifteen away from home at 9-4.

The Rumble Ponies return to NYSEG Stadium Thursday night to begin an 8-game homestand with the first of four games against the Bowie Baysox. First pitch is at 6:35PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show begins at 6:20PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: RHP Ryder Ryan and righty reliever Adonis Uceta combined for four and a third innings of scoreless relief...Brodey finished 2-2, with 2 runs scored, 2 Walks, and his third home run in less than a week. David Thompson was 3-5 with a run scored and Gavin Cecchini drove in two runs...The Ponies lost despite outhitting the Fightins' 13-10.
