New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Despite another home run from top prospect Kevin Smith -- his seventh in the last 11 games -- the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) lost both games of Tuesday night's doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals).
Game 1: Senators 8 - Fisher Cats 3 (F/8)
Harrisburg exploded for six runs in the top of the eighth inning to earn the win in the first game of the doubleheader. The Senators were up 2-0 after Luis Garcia homered in the top of the sixth. The Fisher Cats came back to tie the game with two in the home half. Brock Lundquist singled and Forrest Wall reached on an error. Santiago Espinal moved the runners up with a bunt and Josh Palacios hit a sacrifice fly for a run. Wall scored from second on a wild pitch that ricocheted to the first base dugout to make it 2-2.
After Harrisburg's six-run eighth inning, the Fisher Cats managed a run in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Logan Warmoth.
Both starting pitchers pitched well. Tyler Mapes allowed the two runs, both unearned, for Harrisburg with reliever Jordan Mills (W, 2-1) picking up the win.
New Hampshire's Yennsy Diaz allowed two runs in six innings. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out three batters. Vinny Nittoli (L, 0-2) took the loss in relief, allowing two earned runs and four unearned runs. Danny Young recorded all three outs in the eighth inning.
Game 2: Senators 8 - Fisher Cats 2
The Senators had a big first inning against knuckleballer Ryan Feierabend (L, 0-1), scoring four times to establish an insurmountable lead. After two walks, Dante Bichette Jr. doubled in the first run. A two-run double by Sagdal and a single by Spencer Kieboom made it 4-0.
Wall singled to start the bottom of the first and scored on a single by Palacios to cut the lead to 4-1.
Harrisburg picked up two more runs in the top of the third before Smith launched his 15th homer of the season to make it 6-2 Senators after four innings.
Tres Berrera homered and Kieboom delivered an RBI single in the top of the fifth as the lead grew to 8-2.
Mario Sanchez (W, 8-3) picked up the win for Harrisburg. Dany Jimenez and Jackson McClelland each tossed a perfect inning of relief out of the bullpen.
The series concludes with a game on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Nate Pearson is scheduled to start for the Fisher Cats against Harrisburg RHP Jackson Tetreault.
On Wednesday, the first 1,000 fans will receive the Vlad Guerrero Jr. Bobblehead, the third and final piece of the TriBobble series. Consolidated Communications is the presenting sponsor.
