Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the first homestand of the season, the Indy Fuel (3-3-0-0) split with the Cincinnati Cyclones (2-1-1-0) falling by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night. Tim Shoup opened the scoring for the Fuel, scoring back-to-back goals in the first period but that was all Indy could muster throughout the rest of the game. Cody Sol scored the game-winning goal at 15:08 in the second period to seal the win for the Cyclones.
The physicality from Friday's game continued on Saturday with the Central Division rivals. Just :27 into the game, the Cyclones opened the scoring when Ben Johnson picked up a bouncing puck and beat Chase Marchand over the shoulder on a half breakaway. It only took a couple of minutes before Tim Shoup tied the game at one goal apiece, picking up a loose puck in the slot and beating Michael Houser. Scoring from nearly the same spot off of a pass from Alex Krushelnyski, Shoup doubled his goal total late in the period and gave Indy the 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.
Cincinnati quickly tied the game early into the second period when a puck shot down the ice bounced off of the net and on to the stick of John Edwardh, who put it by Marchand. The Fuel were given an early power play when Edwardh was given a cross-checking minor but they were unable to capitalize on the chance. Late in the period, Cincinnati's Cody Sol gave the Cyclones a 3-2 lead, receiving off of a faceoff and firing it past Marchand.
Heading into the final period Indy threw everything they had to tie the game but were unsuccessful. The Fuel put up 10 shots in the third, but Cincinnati's defense held strong throughout. Kurt Gosselin took a late cross-checking penalty giving Indy a final chance at tying the game up but Michael Houser and the Cincinnati defense held on and took home the 3-2 win.
Indy heads to Fort Wayne on November 2 to face the Komets for the first time this season then return home for two Central Division matchups with the Toledo Walleye and Cincinnati Cyclones on November 8 and November 9. Kansas City comes to Indiana Farmers Coliseum for the final game of the homestand on November 13.
