Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps overcame a three-run deficit with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Dayton Dragons 5-4 on Thursday night. The TinCaps completed a sweep of the four-game series. The loss was the fifth in a row for the Dragons. They held the lead in four of the five losses including three of the four games in Fort Wayne.

The Dragons came to bat in the top of the ninth facing a 5-4 deficit and had a chance to tie the game or take the lead. The loaded the bases with one out before Fort Wayne reliever Henry Henry got Dayton's Juan Martinez to ground into a force play to first base with the lead runner thrown out at the plate, and pinch hitter Jay Schuyler flied out to right field to end the game.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Michael Siani walked and scored from first on a double to left field by Miguel Hernandez. The Dragons added another run in the sixth when Shard Munroe walked, went to third on an error, and scored Reniel Ozuna's ground out to make it 2-0.

Fort Wayne scored on run in the seventh before the Dragons responded with two in the eighth. Munroe got the rally started with a single, then stole second and scored on Martinez's double. Martinez eventually scored from third on Claudio Finol's bunt single to make it 4-1.

Fort Wayne collected three hits and drew two walks in the eighth, taking the lead on a two-out, two-run single by Luis Almanzar that completed a four-run inning.

It was another tough night for the Dayton bullpen. During the five-game losing streak, Dragons relievers have worked 23 innings and allowed 36 runs, an average of 7.2 runs per game. The Dragons lost two leads in the bottom of the eighth inning and another in the sixth inning in Fort Wayne.

The outcome spoiled an outstanding effort by Dayton starting pitcher Jhon De Jesus, who fired five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts.

The Dragons collected 11 hits. Michael Siani was on base four times with two hits and two walks. He also stole three bases. Munroe and Hernandez also had two hits. Martinez had one hit to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games.

Game Notes: Dragons reliever Ryan Campbell enjoyed a baseball rarity in the seventh inning when he struck out four batters in one inning. A dropped third strike allowed the second strikeout victim to reach safely.

Roster Notes: Prior to Thursday's game, the Dragons activated pitcher Jesse Stallings from the injured list and received pitcher Jerry D'Andrea from extended spring training. Pitcher Andy Cox and infielder Dylan Harris were placed on the seven-day injured list.
