Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons had a season-high seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end this evening when the Alaska Aces struck for four goals in a 4:58 span at the end of the second period on their way to a 5-1 victory at Save Mart Center.
Following a scoreless first period, J.F. Plourde gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with his team on the power play at 3:31 of the second when he fired a shot from the slot past Alaska goaltender Matt Underhill. Alaska tied the game at one with a power play goal of its own off the stick of Chris Minard at 14:20.
The floodgates then opened as the Aces rattled off three straight tallies over the next 2:09 to take command of the game. Minard scored his second of the game at 17:09 before notching a natural hat trick with a power play goal at 18:59. Zack Fitzgerald topped off the goal explosion with his first as a pro 19 seconds later to send Fresno to the locker room trailing 4-1 after 40 minutes.
Alex Leavitt finished the scoring at 7:20 of the third for the final 5-1 margin as Alaska set a new team record by winning its eighth straight hockey game.
Despite the loss, the Falcons still lead the Pacific Division with a record of 10-4-4 and 24 points. The team plays 12 of its next 13 on the road, including three straight this coming week in Anchorage against the Aces.
Fresno's next home game is Dec. 26 when the Stockton Thunder visit Save Mart Center. Individual tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office.
