Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 13, 2012) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have received first round pick outfielder Courtney Hawkins from Advanced Rookie Bristol today.
The White Sox selected Hawkins, 18, with the 13th overall pick in this June's First Year Player Draft out of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was named the Texas High School Baseball Player of the Year following his senior season. He hit .412 as a senior and posted a .580 on-base percentages and .874 OPS to go along with a 0.92 ERA on the mound. Hawkins is the first player selected by the White Sox in the first round since 2001 when Chicago selected pitcher Kris Honel.
Hawkins appeared in 38 games with Bristol, batting .272 (40-147) with three home runs, eight doubles, a triple and 16 RBI while stealing eight bases in 10 attempts. The athletic outfielder stole the show on draft night when he celebrated his selection with an impromptu back flip in the MLB Network studios.
The Intimidators are at home for a seven-game home stand starting today through Sunday, August 19, against the Delmarva Shorebirds and West Virginia Power. For full promotional details and ticket information, visit our website at intimidatorsbaseball.com or call the box office at (704) 932-FANS.
