
Shorebirds Drop Two Games on Monday

Kannapolis, NC - The Kannapolis Intimidators held the Delmarva Shorebirds (47-71, 19-30) offense in check to win two games on Monday night at CMC-Northeast Stadium. The Intimidators completed the suspended game from July 29th with a 7-0 win and won a seven-inning game two, 4-3.
The Shorebirds trailed 1-0 against Kannapolis dating back to a suspended game on July 29. The pitchers, Chris Hanna and Miguel Chalas were dueling from the third inning through the sixth inning.
In the seventh, the Intimidators struck. The first two batters reached on singles. Two batters later, Adam Heisler pulled a three run homer over the right field wall to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Chalas lasted five innings and yielded six hits and three runs.
The Intimidators added three runs in the ninth inning off reliever Alex Schmarzo. Joe De Pinto led off with a triple and scored on a balk. Joey DeMichele tripled home Leighton Pangilinan, who singled. DeMichele scored on the second balk of the inning by Schmarzo to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Kannapolis pitcher Hanna limited the Shorebirds to just two hits over seven innings to earn the win.
In game two, Kannapolis took an early lead in the second on a two out single by Pangilinan.
The Shorebirds countered in the second to knot the game at 1-1. Mychal Givens drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a groundout to second.
The teams traded runs again in the third and fourth innings. Down 2-1 in the fourth, the Shorebirds tied the game on a single through the left side by Mikey Planeta, who extended his hit streak to seven games.
In the fifth inning, Kannapolis added two runs to build a 4-2 lead. Adam Heisler reached on a leadoff walk. He later scored on a passed ball charged to Adam Davis. After Jesse Beal replaced Williams Louico on the mound, Grant Buckner singled to center to score the second run.
The Shorebirds battled in the seventh inning. Mychal Givens and Adam Davis drew back-to-back walks. With two outs, Gregory Lorenzo hit a hard grounder past the first baseman into right field to plate Givens to pull the Shorebirds within one. With Adam Davis at third, Glynn Davis struck out to end the game.
Kannapolis reliever Jeff Soptic picked up the win over two scoreless and hitless innings.
Shorebirds starter Williams Louico was pinned with the loss over 4.2 innings. He yielded just two hits, but walked four batters.
Jesse Beal surrendered just one hit over 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play two games on Tuesday, August 14 with the first pitch of the suspended game at 5:00pm.
