Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets today became the first team this season to sweep the South Atlantic League Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors in a single week. Outfielder Shawn Payne was named Player of the Week while Adalberto Mejia claimed Pitcher of the Week honors for the Week of August 6-12 in an announcement made by league president Eric Krupa.

In five games, Payne hit .409 (9-22) with a double, a triple, a home run and six RBI's while stealing five bases. Payne is the first GreenJackets position player to win the award this season and the first since Ryan Cavan picked up the honor in June of 2010.

Mejia earned the honor after his eight scoreless innings on Friday night against the Delmarva Shorebirds. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out six to get his staff-leading eighth win of the season. It's the second time this year that Mejia has been honored by the league after he previously won the award for the Week of June 18-24.

The GreenJackets open a three-game series tonight with the Lakewood BlueClaws on another Feed Your Face Monday. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com. Gates open at 6 p.m. Single-game tickets for any home game can currently be obtained by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
