STAT OF THE DAY: The Shorebirds offense is hitting .271 in the last five games and .257 in their last ten, well above their season average of .241. The Shorebirds are coming off a season high 16 hits on Saturday against Augusta.
PREVIEW: After a 2-2 home series against Augusta, the Shorebirds open a five-game series in Kannapolis over the next three days. Two of the five games are suspended games that will be continued. The first game today was suspended on July 29 at Perdue Stadium with Kannapolis leading 1-0 in the 3rd. With 23 games left, the Shorebirds are seven games out of first place.
A SERIES TO REMEMBER: Mychal Gives had eight hits in the last series against Augusta (8-for-17, .470). He recorded multiple hits in each game. Givens boosted his average to .251 from .237. His average is above .250 for the first time since the second game of the season (.286 on April 7).
STREAKING PLANETA: Mikey Planeta has hit safely in six straight games (12-for-26, .461). He has four multi-hit games including two three hit games during the stretch. His average has increased 21 points (.248 to .269) during the stretch. His season long hit streak is seven, accomplished twice (April 14-May 15 and July 21-28).
STRONG YEAR FOR OHLMAN: In 31 games with the Shorebirds, Ohlman has 30 hits, nine doubles, 14 RBIs and 23 walks. Ohlman has hit safely in seven of his last eight games to bolster his average to .288. Since July 5 (Ohlman's first game), he has the 15th best on-base percentage in the SAL (.415) and the third most walks (23) in the league.
7 STRAIGHT GAMES WITHOUT HR: The Shorebirds have gone seven straight games without a home run. Their last home run was on August 3 against Greensboro by Brenden Webb, who was promoted to Frederick on August 8. The homer by Webb is the only home run the Shorebirds have in August, tied for fewest in SAL (Charleston).
