Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Martin Perez allowed one unearned run in six innings, then two relief pitchers struck out nine batters over the final three innings, as the Round Rock Express defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes, 4-2, on Wednesday night at Dell Diamond.
The Isotopes (34-32) have now gone 12 consecutive games alternating a win and a loss.
Perez (4-1) struck out six and walked none in six innings, scattering eight hits. Reliever Joseph Ortiz allowed two hits in the seventh inning, but struck out the side. Then he struck out the side, in order, in the eighth inning.
Closer Cory Burns recorded his 15th save, striking out the side as well, but it was an eventful ninth inning. Dee Gordon and Elian Herrera singled, then pinch-hitter Chili Buss delivered a two-out single to trim the score to 4-2. Burns struck out Matt Angle to end it. Angle came to the plate with two runners on base, and two outs, in the first, fifth, seventh and ninth innings. He stranded eight runners on base.
Topes starter Aaron Laffey (2-3) walked home two runs with the bases loaded in the second inning. His leadoff walk in the third inning led to a sacrifice fly by Mike Olt for a 3-1 lead. In the seventh, Geison Aguasviva surrendered three hits, including an RBI double by Olt.
The finale of this four-game series, and eight-game road trip, will be Thursday night. Right-hander Matt Palmer starts for the Isotopes, while Round Rock sends Lisalverto Bonilla to the mound. First pitch is at 6:05 pm Mountain Time and the game can be heard on 610 AM "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
