Tacoma Rainiers News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Brad Miller's go-ahead double in the ninth inning proved not enough as the Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Las Vegas 51s 8-6 at Cashman Field on Tuesday night.
Trailing the 51s 4-3, Tacoma managed to load the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Jason Jaramillo drew a walk, Robert Andino lined a single and Abrahma Almonte reached on a fielding error to provide Miller a chance to complete a Rainiers rally.
The shortstop lined a single to center field with two strikes, clearing the way for all three base runners to score and providing the Rainiers a late 6-4 lead.
Las Vegas ultimately answered back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Wilmer Flores' two-out RBI single brought the 51s within a run, and Zach Lutz completed the comeback with a walk-off three-run home run one at-bat later.
Reliever Logan Bawcom was dealt the loss after surrendering all four of Las Vegas' runs in the ninth. The right-hander had successfully converted each of his first 11 save opportunities entering tonight's contest.
Tacoma combined to collect seven hits on Tuesday, led by second baseman Dustin Ackley's 2-for-4 effort. Ackley recorded a pair of singles and has now hit safely in each of his last 12 games. He is batting .429 since joining the Rainiers roster on May 28.
Miller's single in the ninth inning also extended his hitting streak 12 games. He is now batting .400 with seven extra-base hits and 19 RBI since beginning the streak on May 29.
Eric Thames belted a solo shot to lead off the third inning - the outfielder's seventh home run this season.
The Rainiers (39-27) play the third game of a four-game series at Las Vegas (33-29) at 7:05 p.m., tomorrow, June 12. Left-hander James Paxton (2-5, 5.73) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against 51s right-hander D.J. Mitchell (2-2, 7.36).
