Bogusevic Leads Iowa Past RedHawks, 5-1

Oklahoma City - Brian Bogusevic hit two-run home runs in both the second and seventh innings to lead the Iowa Cubs in a 5-1 win against the Oklahoma City RedHawks Wednesday in front of a crowd of 3,566 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The former RedHawk recorded his first multi-homer game of the season to give Iowa a 2-1 edge in the series against Oklahoma City (34-29).

Jose Martinez led Oklahoma City with two hits and helped the RedHawks avoid a shutout when he singled to score Andy Simunic in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Iowa (30-35) extended to a 4-0 lead in the seventh inning on Bogusevic's second home run of the night. He now has a team-leading 15 hits against the RedHawks this season.

After the RBI single from Martinez in the eighth, the I-Cubs added a run during the top of the ninth inning. J.C. Boscan grounded into a force out and Junior Lake scored.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jonathan Villar singled to put runners at the corners for the RedHawks with two outs. He stole second, but Andy Simunic struck out looking to end the game.

The I-Cubs outhit the RedHawks, 9-7, and all of Oklahoma City's hits were singles.

Iowa improved to 8-3 overall against Oklahoma City this season.

Iowa starting pitcher Chris Rusin (5-6) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits, walked one and struck out three.

RedHawks starter Brett Oberholtzer (4-5) allowed four runs and eight hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked one.

Oklahoma City's current series against Iowa concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game Thursday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
