
Zephyrs Fall to Memphis 9-3

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds pounded out 17 hits and defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 9-3 on Wednesday at Autozone Park. The win is Memphis third consecutive over the Zephyrs.
Gorkys Hernandez led off the first with a single, stole second base advanced to third on a fly out and scored on a Bryan Petersen RBI single.
The Redbirds offense scored two in the second inning to take the lead. Every position player in the Memphis line-up had at least one hit. Rob Johnson, Ryan Jackson and Justin Christian each had three hits to pace the Birds. The 18 hits allowed by the Z's is the second most allowed this season.
Memphis scored runs in five of their eight at bats. Redbirds starter Carlos Martinez pitched six innings allowed two runs on seven hits to earn the win. Brian Flynn was tagged with five runs on ten hits in 4.2 innings to take the defeat.
Game Notes - The roster shuffled continued for the Z's. New Orleans added infielders Donovan Solano and Joe Mahoney from the Marlins. To make room Chris Gutierrez and Ryan Goetz were reassigned.
