Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, Calif. - Gary Brown homered to lead off the Fresno Grizzlies' first inning, but the Tucson Padres opened up thereafter and beat the Grizzlies 7-2 on Tuesday at Chukchansi Park.

Brown's homer in the first tied the game at 1-1, and Kensuke Tanaka hit an RBI triple over Tucson right fielder Kalian Sams' head in the second to give the Grizzlies a 2-1 advantage.

In the third and fourth innings, though, the Padres grabbed and padded their lead with a pair of runs in each frame off Grizzlies starting pitcher Boof Bonser. Cody Decker tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the third while Brandon Allen's groundout plated Sams to give the Padres the lead. In the fourth, Jonathan Galvez drove in starting pitcher Robbie Erlin with an RBI single to cap the two-run inning.

Bonser labored through five innings in the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks. He allowed one run in the first, but escaped a bases loaded jam in the same inning.

The Padres tacked on two runs in the seventh off relief pitcher Brett Bochy. With two outs, Rene Rivera hit a two-run single to make it 7-2 Padres. Bochy threw two innings, surrendering the two runs on three hits.

Mason Tobin and Heath Hembree each contributed a shutout inning for Fresno. Hembree struck out one in his perfect ninth inning.

Brown went 3-for-5, collecting his third straight multi-hit game. Brown has nine hits in his last three games, including three doubles and two home runs.

With the loss, the Grizzlies have still yet to win back-to-back games since May 19-20.

The Grizzlies and Padres will meet for game three of the series on Wednesday at 7:05 pm. Right-hander Mitch Lively will take the mound for the Grizzlies and oppose right-hander Anthony Bass of Tucson.
