Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres moved back to two games out of first place in the Southern Division Tuesday by defeating the Fresno Grizzlies 7-2 at Chukchansi Park.
The Padres jumped ahead 1-0 in the first when Jonathan Galvez singled to right and was caught in a rundown between first and second base allowing Dean Anna to come in and score. Gary Brown led off the bottom of the first with his fifth home run of the year to tie the score. The Grizzlies took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on Kensuke Tanaka's RBI triple to right.
Tucson responded with two runs in the third with the help of Cody Decker's RBI single and Brandon Allen's RBI groundout. Decker finished the night 2-for-5 with an RBI. Two more runs came around for the Padres in the fourth to put Tucson up 5-2. Rene Rivera's two-run single in the seventh provided Tucson with a five-run cushion.
Padres starter Robbie Erlin (5-1) pitched five innings to earn the win. Erlin, along with Brad Boxberger and Brad Brach, combined to strikeout 14 batters in the game. Boof Bonser (2-5) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits.
