Omaha Storm Chasers June 12th Game Notes

June 12, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: Johnny Hellweg was strong through seven innings and got the better of a highly-anticipated prospect pitching matchup as Nashville downed Omaha, 5-2, Tuesday night in the second of a four-game set at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers dipped to 28-34 and fell four games behind Memphis in the American Conference North Division after the Redbirds swept a doubleheader from New Orleans.

NO STARTER SUPPORT: Storm Chasers starter Justin Marks has suffered the loss in three consecutive starts, but in those starts he has received only three total runs of support. In his seven starts this season Omaha has scored only 13 total runs, good for a 1.9 run support average, the worst among all Storm Chasers starters. The Chasers have only scored more than two runs in one of his starts in 2013 (his only win on May 16 vs Las Vegas).

ANOTHER OMAHA MILESTONE: With his first homer of the season, which snapped a 68-game Triple-A homerless streak, Irving Falu became the 11th player in team history to reach 200 RBI. Tenth place in all-time RBI is David Lough at 209.

SEARCHING FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER SPLIT: With a win in tonight's game, the Storm Chasers can force at least a season split with Nashville. In the last ten seasons, Omaha and Nashville have split the season series four times (2010, 2009, 2008, 2003). Omaha has won the series four times (2012, 2011, 2005, 2004) while Nashville won it in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007. Since the division switch in 2005, Omaha has won or split with Nashville six times, and has won or split the series with Iowa and Memphis a total of nine times.

SAY HAYES KID: Brett Hayes extended his on-base streak to 19 games last night, the second longest streak this season for a Storm Chasers batter (the longest streak was Anthony Seratelli's 20-game streak from May 10 to June 1). During the streak, Hayes is hitting .308 (20-for-65). In six games against Nashville, Hayes is batting .462 (12-for-26) with six homers, ten runs scored and 14 runs batted in.

FEW RUN RELIEF: Dating back to the series finale with Memphis on June 4, Omaha relievers have allowed only one earned run (and two runs total) in their last 26.1 innings. Chasers relievers have given up seven earned runs in 39.2 total innings this month, after giving up 50 earned runs in 89.1 innings in May.
