Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (37-42) buried the Omaha Storm Chasers (35-43) 7-2 on Thursday night at Dell Diamond to capture a seventh-consecutive victory and their first series sweep of 2018.
Express starter LHP David Hurlbut left with the no-decision when he exited the mound with the game tied at 2-2 in the sixth. On the night, Hurlbut tossed 5.2 frames of two-run ball while dancing around 10 base hits. On the other end, Storm Chasers LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (3-7, 4.15) took home the loss after surrendering four earned runs over 5.1 innings.
After lifting Round Rock to victory with a tie-breaking homer last night, 1B Tommy Joseph found the sweet spot once again to put the Express up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. 2B Christian Lopes kept the frame alive with a two-out single before advancing to second a wild pitch. In the next at-bat, Joseph connected on a 431-foot shot to left field for his 17th round-tripper of the year, placing him in a tie for third on the PCL home run leaderboard.
Hurlbut went unscathed through the first four innings of play before finally allowing Omaha to crack the scoreboard in the fifth. Storm Chasers SS Humberto Arteaga and LF Terrance Gore reached on a pair of singles to put runners on the corners with no outs. Arteaga would later score on a groundout by 2B Ramon Torres before DH Frank Schwindel plated Gore on a base hit up the middle, knotting the score at 2-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Round Rock regained the lead 4-2 thanks to a two-run double off the bat of C Tony Sanchez. Joseph kicked off the E-Train rally when he lofted a one-out single to centerfield. The next batter, LF Willie Calhoun, laced a double down the right-field line to dock runners on second and third with Sanchez striding to the plate.
After whiffing on the first pitch of the at-bat, Sanchez rocked the second offering off the wall in left-center to plate both runners as the Round Rock backstop strolled to second base for his seventh two-bagger of the year.
The Express bats pulled away in the next frame by adding three runs to their total. RF Hanser Alberto worked a walk, advanced to second on a groundout, and later scored on Cliff Pennington's line drive single to make it 5-2. With one away and a man on first, Lopes blasted Round Rock's second longball of the game on a screamer to left field, cementing the final score at 7-2.
Working with a sizeable advantage, the E-Train bullpen held Omaha scoreless after the sixth. Tonight's winning pitcher, RHP Tayler Scott (3-2, 3.90) faced just four batters before handing the ball to LHP Jeffery Springs and RHP Deolis Guerra. The lefty-righty tandem held the opposition hitless over the final 2.2 innings while punching out five Storm Chasers hitters.
Round Rock will kick-off a five-games series with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (43-34) tomorrow night at Dell Diamond. Express RHP Richelson Pena (1-1, 6.30) is slated to face Sky Sox RHP Aaron Brooks (4-3, 4.91). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
