Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Left-handed reliever Alberto Baldonado was selected to the 2018 Pacific Coast League All-Star team, the league announced today. Baldonado joins PCL manager Marty Pevey as the Iowa Cubs' representatives headed to Huntington Park for the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11 in Columbus, OH.

Baldonado is 3-1 with a 3.82 ERA (16ER/37.2IP) in one spot-start and 22 total games with Iowa this season. He has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen, holding opponents scoreless in 16 of 22 outings. Among full-time PCL relievers with 30.0 or more innings pitched, Baldonado's 10.75 strikeouts per nine innings clip (45K/37.2IP) is the 10th-highest mark.

This is Baldonado's second mid-season All-Star selection. The lefty was a Florida State League All-Star while with St. Lucie (Mets) in 2016.

The Panama native was originally signed by the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2010. He elected free agency following the 2017 season and signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Dec. 11.

The Huntington Bank Triple-A All-Star Game presented by Gildan will be broadcast live on MiLB.TV. All-Star festivities in Columbus begin with the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby and Skills Competition on Monday, July 9.
