New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Metairie, LA - New Orleans Baby Cakes infielder Eric Campbell and right-handed pitcher Zac Gallen have been named to the 2018 Pacific Coast League All-Star team, the league announced on Thursday.

The duo will participate in the Triple-A All-Star Game, pitting PCL All-Stars against International League All- Stars, on Wednesday, July 18 at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio. The 31st annual matchup will be broadcast live on MLB Network at 6:00 p.m. Central Time.

Campbell was elected as the league's All-Star second baseman, making him the first New Orleans infielder to be named an All-Star since Hector Luna in 2010. Campbell is ninth in the league batting race with a .333 average, and also ranks fifth in on-base percentage (.430) and 12th in runs batted in (47). He leads the Baby Cakes with 25 multi-hit efforts, and has committed only two errors in 63 games.

Originally an eighth-round selection of the New York Mets in 2008, with whom he made his major league debut in 2014, Campbell was signed by the Miami Marlins as a free agent in the offseason. His only previous All-Star selection came in 2012 with Double-A Binghamton.

In his first full season at Triple-A, Gallen owns a 4-3 record in 14 starts with the Baby Cakes. His 3.13 ERA ranks sixth in the Pacific Coast League, and includes a 0.50 ERA in six starts at home, where he began the season with a 29-inning scoreless streak which lasted until his first outing in June.

Gallen is earning an All-Star nod for the second straight season, having done so last year in the Florida State League with Single-A Palm Beach as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals organization, who drafted him in the third round in 2016. He was included in a trade to the Marlins for outfielder Marcell Ozuna during the offseason.

The Baby Cakes host the Oklahoma City Dodgers for a six-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. and culminating with the annual Independence Day celebration on Tuesday night.
