The Jackals are facing the Nailers tonight for the seventh of 15 meetings this season, and fifth of seven at WesBanco Arena. The Jackals are 1-5-0 against the Nailers this season after picking up their first win in the season series on December 12. That win broke Wheeling's 12-game streak of games with a standings point (10-0-2), and was Elmira's second to last win of a streak on which the Jackals went 5-1-0. Since that night the Nailers have gone 1-4-2 in their next seven games while the Jackals have gone 1-5-1. An odd feature to the Jackals' season series with the Nailers is that the team that has been out-shot is 6-0-0. The Jackals scored on 23% (5-for-22) of their shots in the 5-2 win on Dec. 12 while Wheeling launched a season-high 46 shots on Maxime Clermont.
Elmira's effort on the penalty kill has been a bright spot over its recent stretch of road games. The Jackals are 15-for-18 (83.3%) on the kill in their last seven road games dating back to Dec. 12 at Wheeling. That solid stretch has moved them up to 19th in the league on the road at 78.2% and 17th overall at 83.9%. The league median for road penalty killing is 83.9 percent. When it comes to killing penalties at home, the Jackals are the team to beat in the East at 92.1%. Only Utah rates higher at 93.2.
