Corey Trivino Earns First Call-Up to AHL
January 3, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have announced that forward Corey Trivino has been signed to a Pro Try-Out Contract by the Portland Pirates of the AHL per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm.
Trivino, who turns 24 on January 12, has played in 29 contests with the Thunder, picking up 24 points (5-19-24) including one game winner. His 19 assists has him tied atop the team leaderboard with centerman Joey Martin and his 24 points ranks him second on the Thunder's active roster behind Martin (26).
During the month of December, the Toronto, Ontario native was enjoying his most productive stretch of the season. Trivino had a team high 7-game point-streak lasting from December 7 to 27, picking up 2 Goals, 10 Assists, and 12 Points.
"This is a great opportunity for Corey as he's really started to play well for us," explains Kromm. "Getting him moved from the wing to the middle has really helped his game recently. He has more room to skate and is able to be more creative in the middle, and that has really helped his game ahead of his first call-up."
Trivino was acquired on June 12th as a result of the March 7, 2013 trade that sent Cody Reichard's rights to the Florida Everblades in exchange for "future considerations". Trivino began the season as a winger to former Everblade teammate Brayden Irwin, but after Irwin was traded to Greenville in exchange for defenseman Lee Baldwin, Trivino moved back to his natural position of center.
The former New York Islanders #36th Overall Selection of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft won a NCAA National Championship with the Boston University Terriers as a freshman in 2008-09. While Trivino has spent 92 games in the ECHL split between the Thunder and Everblades, this will be his first stint in the AHL.
