
Stingrays' Jakaitis Named ECHL Goaltender of the Month

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Jeff Jakaitis has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December. The monthly honor is Jakaitis' second of the season and fourth in his ECHL career, setting a new league record.
In December, Jakaitis, 30, went an impressive 6-0-0 with two shutouts, 1.00 goals against average and .966 save percentage in six appearances. The Rochester, Minnesota, native allowed two goals or less in each of his six appearances and made more than 30 saves in three contests, stopping 33 shots in a 5-1 win at Orlando on December 7, turning aside 40 chances in a 3-2 victory at Greenville on December 27 and stopping all 38 Elmira shots in 2-0 shutout on December 31.
Jakaitis leads the ECHL with a 1.53 goals-against average and .944 save percentage, tied for the lead with 18 wins, second in minutes played (1,334), tied for second with three shutouts and is third in saves (578). The 5-foot-10, 165-pound goaltender is currently on a 10-game winning streak and is unbeaten in his last 11 contests (10-0-0-1).
In his ECHL career, Jakaitis appeared in 148 games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Charlotte and Columbia earning an overall record of 78-42-22 with 16 shutouts, 2.43 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. Following the 2011-12 season, he was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Year with Gwinnett and tied an ECHL record with three consecutive shutouts from December 17-28, 2011, all against South Carolina.
