Kalamazoo's Binnington Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Jordan Binnington is the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for December.

The 20-year-old went 6-2-0 with one shutout, a 1.74 goals-against average and a save percentage of .941 in eight appearances during the month.

A native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Binnington opened the month with 43 saves in a 5-1 win at Greenville on Dec. 5 and then recorded his first professional shutout with 36 saves in a 2-0 victory against the Road Warriors on Dec. 7. He made at least 30 saves four times in December and allowed two goals or less five times.

Selected by the St. Louis Blues in the third round (88th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Binnington is 10-6-1 in 17 appearances this season with a 2.23 goals-against average and a save percentage of .923. He ranks second among rookies in goals-against average and is fourth among first-year goaltenders with a .923 save percentage.

Prior to turning pro, Binnington played four seasons with Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League posting an 86-51-14 record with nine shutouts, a 2.91 goals-against average and a save percentage of .910. He made his pro debut with Peoria of the American Hockey League, seeing action in one game during the 2011-12 season.
