TONIGHT:

The Ontario Reign (21-5-1-3) will play their first contest of the New Year against the Las Vegas Wranglers (8-18-3-1) at Orleans Arena. The Reign will play on this ice in six of their eight match-ups against the Wranglers this season. In their last game, Ontario skated away with a 5-4 overtime win thanks to Matt Register's Reign record third over-time game-winning goal of the season. This was the Reign's first and only midnight game of the season - the Wranglers will host their second midnight game on Sunday, Feb. 16 against the Colorado Eagles who are currently ranked second in the Western Conference.

STARTING OFF THE NEW YEAR:

The Wranglers are looking to end an eight-game losing streak (0-6-2-0) while the Reign are hoping to build back a win streak starting with one win under their belt from their most recent game in Alaska on New Year's Eve.

FAST FACTS:

The Reign are second in the league when scoring first with a record of 14-1-0-1 for a .906 win percentage; the Wranglers are last with a 5-4-0-0 record when scoring first for a .556 percentage. Ontario ranks second with 14 points in nine, one-goal games; Las Vegas has only seen three, one-goal games and is 1-1-1-0.

SECOND PERIOD STEREOTYPING:

Las Vegas has seen more goals-against (37) in the second period than any other frame so far this season; the Reign's second period goal-count (34) favors this statistic as they have scored more goals-for in the second than any other period.

POWERING UP THE POWER PLAY:

For the first time this season, the Reign were refused any power-play chances when they faced the Alaska Aces on New Year's Eve. Ontario obviously couldn't convert on the power play in that game, and the team has seen some trouble in that area with a four-game power-play goal drought - to their advantage, they haven't allowed a power-play goal in four games either. The Reign's road power play is among the best in the league with a 19.4 percent success rate; Vegas' home power play is nothing to write home about at 10.6 percent, but the team ranks second with 20 percent road power play success.
