Eight-Run Third Powers Jacksonville to Win Over Charlotte

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp plated eight runs and sent 11 hitters to the plate in the third inning and went on to win 10-4 over the Charlotte Knights Thursday night at Truist Field.

With the score tied at one, Jacksonville (34-29) sent 11 hitters to the plate and exploded for eight runs. Santiago Chavez started the inning with a double and Bryson Brigman walked. Peyton Burdick followed with a two-run double giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 3-1 lead. Lewin Díaz doubled in the next at-bat, scoring Burdick to increase the lead to 4-1. During Jerar Encarnacion's at-bat Díaz advanced to third on a passed ball, and Encarnacion walked to put runners at the corners. JJ Bleday (14) blasted a three-run home run, giving Jacksonville a 7-1 advantage. Charles Leblanc doubled in the ensuing at-bat and three batters later, Chavez (1) blasted a two-run home run, pushing the lead to 9-1.

Charlotte (24-39) managed to cut into the deficit in the fifth. With one out, Blake Rutherford singled and Ryder Jones walked. With two runners on, Zach Remillard (4) launched a three-run home run to make the score 9-4.

The Jumbo Shrimp added one more run in the top of the ninth. With one out, Leblanc singled and went to third on a double from Brian Miller. Erik González singled to right field, scoring Leblanc to give Jacksonville a six-run lead, 10-4.

The bullpen for Jacksonville shut down the Knights. Jake Fishman and Zach Pop combined for 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with two strikeouts.

Charlotte cut into the deficit with three runs in the fifth. With one out, Zach Remillard singled and advanced to third on a single by Anderson. With runners at the corners, Adam Haseley singled to bring home Remillard to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Jacksonville got on the board early in the top of the first. Brigman led off with a double and scored on a single two batters later from Encarnacion to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead early, 1-0.

Charlotte tied the game in the bottom of the second. Gavin Sheets (1) blasted a leadoff solo home run to tie the game at one.

Jacksonville continues their series with Charlotte Friday at 7:04 p.m. RHP Bryan Hoeing (5-2, 4.54) gets the ball for the Jumbo Shrimp and Charlotte will counter with RHP Mike Wright (0-0, 3.27). Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
