Bisons Win Third Straight against Lehigh Valley
June 16, 2022 - International League (IL)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
ALLENTOWN, PA - The Buffalo Bisons defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for a third consecutive night, this time by virtue of a 3-2 victory on an overcast Thursday night from Coca-Cola Park.
Joe Biagini got another spot start and was phenomenal, going three innings of one-hit ball while striking out three, before Bowden Francis followed him with another 3.2 innings of shutout ball.
The IronPigs starter, Ricardo Sanchez, was quite effective as well, as the lefty went six innings allowing two runs off six hits while punching out six.
The Herd scored first in the fourth off an RBI single by Logan Warmoth, and again in the sixth thanks to Stevie Berman's second home run of the year. Warmoth would score another run in the seventh after stealing both second and third before scoring on a groundout.
The Pigs threat in the fifth was quickly thwarted thanks to an unconventional 6-2-4 double play that saw Will Toffey thrown out at the plate, before Berman turned to second and threw out Scott Kingery who was trying to advance during the rundown at home.
Lehigh would score their first run of the game in the bottom of the eighth, when Mike Ellenbest gave up an RBI single to Daulton Guthrie to make it a 3-1 game.
Adrian Hernandez then came on for the second time in three days and got out of a bases loaded jam to keep it a two-run game. Hernandez stayed on for the ninth, and despite giving up a solo homer to Scott Kingery, froze Edgar Cabral to end the game and pick up the five-out save.
The Bisons and Pigs will continue their series tomorrow night, with the Herd looking to pick up their second series win of the year against Lehigh Valley. They will send Thomas Hatch to the mound to face lefty Michael Plassmeyer, and will do so at 7:05 p.m. EST.
