The Rochester Red Wings bounced back from a tough streak, defeating the Railriders 3-1 on Thursday night at PNC Park. The Wings now sit in 2nd place in the International League.

RHP Cade Cavalli took the mound first, throwing four strikeouts and allowing just one run in five innings of action. Cavalli has pitched for at least five innings in his last five starts, going 3-2 through those games. RHP Patrick Murphy and RHP Tyler Clippard toed the rubber and pitched a shutout through four innings. Murphy has now tossed 9.1 consecutive scoreless innings. Righty Jordan Weems closed it out in the ninth.

The Wings fell down 1-0 early on a Ronald Guzman single but tied it up in the sixth thanks to a ground-out RBI from 3B Adrian Sanchez.

2B Ildermaro Vargas homered in the seventh and brought in C Taylor Gushue as the Wings took a 3-1 lead. It was Vargas' first homer of the season and his first-ever with the Red Wings, with his last bomb coming on April 23, 2021, with Iowa. Vargas also registered 2 RBI and a single in the win.

Rochester picked back up with its base stealing tendencies, as CF Cole Freeman nabbed two steals and RF Andrew Stevenson registered one. Stevenson's steal moves his season total to 17 and ties him with Richie Martin of Norfolk for fourth in the IL. If Lehigh Valley fails to register three steals in their game, Rochester will jump them for ninth place in bags stolen in the IL. Andrew Stevenson also recorded a hit in Thursday's win, pushing his season hitting total to 65, good for fourth in the International League.

With the victory, Wings Manager Matt Lecroy has locked up win No. 699 in his over 11-year managerial career. Lecroy will look to reach the 700-win milestone in Rochester's next game against Scranton, which is set to take place at 6:35 p.m. on Friday at PNC Park.
