Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Toledo, Ohio - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (47-43, 11-6) exploded for eight runs in the top of the ninth inning to topple the Toledo Mud Hens (39-53, 6-12), 9-2, collecting their seventh consecutive win on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.
Both offenses were quiet in the first eight innings as Toledo scored the first run of the game in the second when Tyler Nevin scampered home on a wild pitch and the IronPigs tied the game in the seventh with a Weston Wilson solo homer, his 23rd of the season.
Despite the pitching duel, the IronPigs stayed relentless at the plate and broke through in a big way in the ninth. After loading the bases with one out, Jake Cave roped a single to right to plate the go-ahead run. Nick Podkul then walked to force in a run before Dustin Peterson singled home two more. A walk to Simon Muzziotti reloaded the bases before Jim Haley produced a sacrifice fly to make it 6-1. Cal Stevenson walked to put three runners on again and Scott Kingery cleared them all off with a double, putting the IronPigs ahead 9-1.
Johan Camargo produced a two-out RBI single in the last of the ninth for a consolation run for Toledo, as the 'Pigs ran away with a 9-2 victory.
Ben Bowden (4-2) pitched a scoreless eighth to collect the win for the IronPigs. Bowden allowed a hit and a walk, but struck out three.
Miguel Diaz (1-4) suffered the loss for Toledo, allowing six runs in one-third of an inning on three hits and two walks, striking out one.
The IronPigs continue their series against the Mud Hens on Friday, July 21 with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
