Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Omaha Storm Chasers scored 10 runs on 12 hits-including nine runs in the first four innings-to defeat the Iowa Cubs, 10-3, on Wednesday at Principal Park. The win, coupled with a St. Paul loss, moves Omaha (53-44) into second place in the Midwest Division standings.

The Storm Chasers started the scoring early. After a leadoff single by right-fielder Rudy Martin, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. smacked a two-run homer over the left-field fence against Iowa (42-56) right-hander Adbert Alzolay (Loss, 0-1) to put Omaha in front, 2-0. It was Witt Jr.'s second home run in as many days, his 11th at the Triple-A level, and his 27th overall this season.

Omaha added two more in the second inning, when Martin sliced a single back up the middle to bring in left-fielder Dairon Blanco and second baseman Angelo Castellano, who had just moved into scoring position on a double steal. Blanco stole two bases in the inning while Castellano and Martin each stole one. Third baseman Travis Jones stole a base later in the game-his first at the Triple-A level-to give Omaha five steals in the game, a mark that ties a season best.

Designated hitter Ryan McBroom gave Omaha another run in the third inning when he launched a solo home run against right-hander Jonathan Holder. It was McBroom's 23rd home run of the season, tying him for the Triple-A East league lead.

The Storm Chasers barrage continued in the fourth against right-hander Joe Biagini. Witt Jr. doubled home Jones and put runners on second and third for first baseman Nick Pratto, who crushed a three-run homer over the right-field fence. It was Pratto's 11th home run at the Triple-A level, 26th of the season, and fifth in the last seven games.

Right-hander Jakob Junis tossed 4.1 scoreless innings in his second start since returning from the injured list, allowing one hit while walking two and striking out four. Junis has thrown 7.1 scoreless innings since returning from the Injured List.

Omaha's final run came in the sixth, when Witt Jr. doubled-his third extra-base hit of the game-and later scored on an RBI single by McBroom.

Witt Jr. went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, and three RBIs while McBroom finished the game 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Martin also notched a three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a stolen base, a walk, and two runs scored.

Right-hander Eddie Butler (Win, 6-2) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the eighth inning on a two-run triple by Greg Deichmann and an RBI groundout. Right-hander Grant Gavin struck out the side in the ninth.

The Storm Chasers continue their series against the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, when left-hander Jake Kalish (2-4, 7.39) faces left-hander Luis Lugo (0-1, 13.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. CT coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. CT with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
