Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (1-4) picked up their first victory of the season in a 3-0 shutout of the Buffalo Bisons (2-3) Wednesday afternoon. The Storm Chasers bullpen pitched 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball without issuing a walk while Omaha's Michael Massey launched a home run as part of his multi-hit day.
The game remained scoreless through the end of the 3rd inning as Omaha starter Ryan Bergert kept the Bisons off the board despite 5 walks and 76 pitches.
The Storm Chasers turned to Shane Panzini (1-0) to open the 4th inning and he kept it 0-0. That allowed Omaha's Kameron Misner to put the Chasers on top 1-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th inning before Buffalo went to its bullpen to get out of the frame.
Panzini finished his night going 6-up, 6-down through the top of the 5th inning, and Omaha then loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame but couldn't come up with any runs.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Massey hit a leadoff home run and in the bottom of the 7th inning, Abraham Toro plated Brandon Drury on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 lead.
Both Helcris Olivárez and Eli Morgan had scoreless outings for the Storm Chasers, with Olivárez going through the 6th inning while Morgan had perfect 7th and 8th innings. That set up Eric Cerantola to finish the shutout, and he retired 3 of the 4 batters he faced to earn the save (1).
The Storm Chasers picked up their first win of the season with the victory while the Bisons dropped back below .500. The two teams will square off again for Game 3 of the series at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday. Omaha righty Luinder Avila and Buffalo right-hander Grant Rogers are expected to start.
