Louisville Bats News Release
Despite a pair of homers including a grand slam from Rece Hinds, the Bats suffered their first loss of the season, 12-7 to the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.
Hinds continued his torrid pace at the start of the game, crushing a grand slam in the first inning to give the Bats the early 4-0 lead. It was Hinds' second consecutive at-bat with a home run following his walk-off shot on Tuesday and he became the first Bats player with multiple home runs in 2026.
The Cubs got all the runs back quickly. BJ Murray Jr. hit a solo home run off Chase Petty to put the visitors on the board, former Bat Eric Yang added an RBI single, and Jonathon Long put Iowa ahead with a grand slam of his own. Petty was removed from the game after just 1.2 innings, allowing seven runs.
The Bats chipped away with an RBI ground out from Blake Dunn in the sixth and Hinds' second homer of the day in the seventh, an opposite field laser into the right field seats.
However, the Cubs pulled away for good in the eighth, plating five runs off Bats relievers Andrew Chafin and Luis Mey to make the score 12-6.
In the loss, Hinds recorded his third multi-homer game for the Bats and posted a season-high five RBI. Edwin Arroyo went 3-for-5, his first multi-hit game at the Triple-A level.
