WooSox Score in Bunches, Take Down St. Paul 19-3

ST. PAUL, MN - The Worcester Red Sox (2-2) hit four home runs and set a new Red Sox Triple-A record drawing 20 walks en route to a 19-3 win over the St. Paul Saints (3-1) in opener of a six-game series on Tuesday night at CHS Field. The 19 runs scored by the WooSox marks the 2nd most in a game in franchise history and the 20 walks drawn is more than any Major League team has received in a single game in MLB history.
The WooSox offense exploded right out of the gate, sending 13 batters to the plate in an eight-run 1st inning that included three home runs. With the WooSox leading 1-0 after a throwing error with the bases loaded by Saints catcher Noah Cardenas, Mikey Romero laced a single up the middle to score Kristian Campbell from third base to double the Worcester lead to 2-0. Allan Castro then followed with his first Triple-A hit, a three-run homer to left field to make it 5-0. After a strikeout and a walk Vinny Capra hit a two-run shot to center, and Nick Sogard followed with a solo home run to right center to give the WooSox an 8-0 lead.
Leading 8-1 after an Orlando Arcia solo shot for St. Paul in the 2nd inning, the WooSox got another in the top of the 4th when Nate Eaton bounced a two-out RBI single up the middle to make it 9-1.
The Saints threatened to get back into the game in the bottom of the 4th, cutting the WooSox lead to 9-2 on a single and three straight walks issued by reliever Reidis Sena to start the frame. Sena then gave way to Seth Martinez who limited the damage to just one more run by getting Kaelen Culpepper to ground into a double play and Walker Jenkins to bounce out to end the inning.
Leading 9-3, the WooSox put the game away in the top of the 6th. St. Paul reliever Trent Baker walked Jason Delay to start the inning, and Capra singled to put runners on first and second. After a strikeout and a walk, Campbell lined a single to right field that got by Saints right fielder Emmanuel Rodriguez to clear the bases and put the WooSox on top 12-3. Three straight walks followed to force in a run and after a strikeout, Delay clubbed a ground-rule double to center to plate two and make it 15-3. After another walk, Sogard delivered the crowning blow: a grand slam to right center field to give the WooSox a 19-3 lead.
The 10 runs scored by the WooSox in the 6th inning fell one shy of the franchise record of 11 in the 7th inning on August 26, 2022 vs Syracuse.
Worcester relievers Devin Sweet and Tayron Guerrero combined to keep the Saints off the board over the final three innings to end the ballgame.
Martinez (1-0) picked up the win for the WooSox with 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, while St. Paul starter Christian MacLeod (0-1) took the loss allowing 6 ER on over 0.2 innings.
The WooSox will look for their first back-to-back wins of 2026 in game two of the series on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch moved up to 2:07 pm due to impending weather. Right-hander Jack Anderson will get the ball making his season debut for Worcester, while St. Paul will counter with RHP Andrew Bush who also makes his first start of 2026.
