
Back-and-Forth Battle Goes to Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders dropped a 5-4 decision to the Rochester Red Wings on Wednesday afternoon at ESL Ballpark. The RailRiders took an early lead, fell behind in the fifth and tied the game in eighth, only to see the Red Wings answer in the bottom of the eighth to take the series opener.
Jasson Dominguez led off the game with a solo home run to right against Red Wings starter Riley Cornelio. With one away, Oswaldo Cabrera tripled and scored on a Max Schuemann sac fly for a 2-0 edge. The Red Wings halved the deficit in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly.
Starters Brendan Beck and Riley Cornelio curtailed the bats for the next three innings. Beck struck out four while Cornelio retired six on strikes.
The Red Wings took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Trey Lipscomb and Yohandy Morales hit back-to-back homers off Beck to left for a 3-2 Rochester lead. Harry Ford doubled in Christian Franklin to extend the advantage.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded with a run on a Payton Henry base hit in the top of the sixth and tied the game at four in the top of the eighth when Braden Shewmake singled home pinch runner Duke Ellis.
Rochester countered with a run on two hits against Yerry De Los Santos in the bottom of the eighth. Lipscomb doubled in Andrew Pinckney to put the Red Wings back in front for good 5-4.
Orlando Ribalta retired the RailRiders in order in the ninth.
Beck allowed four runs, two earned, over 4.1 innings of work, striking out six and walking none.
De Los Santos (0-1) took the loss, while Eddie Yean (1-0) garnered the win and Ribalta earned his first save of the season.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Rochester continue this set on Thursday night for game two of this six-game series. First pitch is slated for 6:05 P.M.
