Worcester Red Sox News Release
MOOSIC, PA - The Worcester Red Sox suffered a fourth consecutive defeat with a 4-1 loss to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Wednesday night at PNC Field.
Jarren Duran led off the game with a double to left-center field on the eighth pitch from Scranton starter Mitch Spence (W, 3-2), but Worcester's offense would be limited to just five hits the rest of the way. Johan Mieses provided two of those hits, including a double in the third and an RBI single in the fourth.
Connor Seabold (L, 8-2) got off to a strong start, holding Scranton scoreless in each of the first three innings. The trouble started in the fourth. Ryan LaMarre was hit by a pitch, Josh Breaux singled, and Ronald Guzmán ripped a first-pitch fastball over the right field wall to put the RailRiders in front, 3-1. LaMarre would add an RBI single in the fifth to pad the lead.
Seabold was removed after 4.1 innings, having allowed four runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Worcester's bullpen pitched well, with Geoff Hartlieb (1.2 IP), Jake Thompson (1 IP), and Frank German (1 IP) combining to shut out Scranton with just one hit allowed over the final 3.2 innings.
Nick Sogard doubled in the seventh inning to extend his on-base streak to 22 games.
The WooSox continue their six-game series with the RailRiders tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at PNC Field. Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
