Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Marc Denis made 45 saves to keep his former teammates off the scoreboard as the Norfolk Admirals (19-25-2-5) fell to the Hamilton Bulldogs (32-19-2-0) 2-0 on Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
After a scoreless opening period, Hamilton took a 1-0 lead on a five-on-three power play. Brock Trotter sent a pass from the bottom of the left circle across the crease to David Desharnais between the goalmouth and the bottom of the right circle. Desharnais sent a quick shot into the net at 16:20.
The Hamilton lead doubled 7:08 into the final frame. Ex-Admirals captain Dan Jancevski sent a pass from the high slot to Steve Gainey at the bottom of the right circle. Gainey's shot eluded Helenius low, glove-side.
The Admirals pumped 17 shots on Denis in the final frame but were unable to solve their former teammate.
Riku Helenius (26 shots, 24 saves) shouldered the loss. Marc Denis (45 shots, 45 saves) earned the win.
Norfolk was 0-3 on the power play. Hamilton was 1-5.
The Admirals will kick off a quick four-game road trip tomorrow night in Hershey. The puck drops at Giant Center at 7:00.
The Admirals will return to Scope next Friday and Saturday to battle the Binghamton Senators. On Friday night, the team will induct Mark Bernard and Victor Gervais into the Admirals Hall of Fame, presented by the Virginian-Pilot.
