Pirates Pick Up 2-1 Win Over Sharks

Portland, Maine - The Pirates evened the Unum Cup series at four games a piece with a 2-1 win over the Sharks at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Felix Schutz scored the game winning goal on a second period penalty shot.

The Sharks got on the board first 11:06 into the game when Tom Cavanaugh scored his 10th goal of the season during a 5-on-3 advantage for the Sharks. Riley Armstrong and Patrick Traverse picked up the assists on the play and the Sharks held a 1-0 lead after the first twenty minutes.

Portland fought back in the second period, when Mark Mancari teed up a drive from the left point and beat Worcester goaltender Taylor Dakers. Tim Kennedy and Mathieu Darche earned assists on the play. Portland then pulled ahead when Felix Schutz stole a pass to create a shorthanded breakaway. Schutz was hauled down, creating a penalty shot. Schutz skated in, deked to the near side and got Dakers down, then shot it over the netminder to put the Pirates on top 2-1.

Portland held onto its one goal lead as John DeCaro stopped all six shots he saw in the third period.

Portland goaltender John DeCaro stopped 25 of 26 shots he saw to improve to 2-0-0. Taylor Dakers stopped 25 of 27 shots and took the loss.
