Flames double up Americans 4-2

The Flames earned their second straight win on Friday night when Quad City topped Rochester 4-2. Kyle Greentree scored his 26th and 27th goals of the year in the win while Adam Cracknell and Kris Chucko added single tallies. Leland Irving was strong in net as he stopped 24 shots including 15 in the second period.

The teams exchanged first period markers with Kyle Greentree scoring for Quad City and Jordan Henry replying for Rochester. Greentree scored when he tipped home a point shot by Anders Eriksson while the Flames were on the man advantage at 1:29 of the opening period. The Americans responded just 1:54 later when Jordan Henry beat Leland Irving with a screened point shot. The Flames went on to outshoot the Americans 12-6 in the opening 20 minutes but could not beat Rochester's Mike Brodeur a second time.

The Flames scored the only goal of the period despite being outshot 15-13. Leland Irving held the fort through the first half of the period as he denied several quality scoring chances. The Flames rallied to re-gain control of the game just past the midway point of the middle frame. At 14:03 of the period, Gord Baldwin took a shot from the left wing circle that Brodeur was able to knock down. Adam Cracknell recovered the free puck just outside of the Rochester crease and flipped it past Brodeur for his seventh goal of the season. The tally was the only goal scored in the middle period, and the Flames headed to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The Flames expanded their lead at 5:57 of the closing frame when Kris Chucko scored on a 2-on-1 break. Cam Cunning earned the primary assist the goal. The Amerks scored a shorthanded goal with 2:54 left in regulation when Shawn Matthias converted following a Flames turnover to slice the Quad City lead to one goal. Kyle Greentree netted his second goal of the night into an empty net with 54 seconds left to secure the Flames win.

The Flames host San Antonio on Saturday to wrap up a six-game home stand.
