March 22, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
The Cyclones finish their home schedule this week with match-ups vs. Peoria on Wednesday and Reading on Friday at U.S. Bank Arena. On Sunday, the Clones make their final appearance in Johnstown. This week, the Cyclones lost three of four. The Dayton Bombers beat the Clones 5-2 on Wednesday in Dayton. On Friday, the Cyclones fell behind 4-0 to Toledo in the first period. Cincinnati would come back to cut the lead to one at 4-3 before Toledo scored an empty net goal to secure the win. Saturday night at U.S. Bank Arena, the Cyclones gave up a third period lead in a 3-2 loss to Johnstown. On Sunday, the Cyclones ended a four-game winless streak with a 5-4 shootout win over Toledo.
Game Recaps
Wednesday, March 17 Cincinnati 2 at Dayton 5
The Clones scored the game's first goal (Phil Lewandowski on a first period power play) and the game's last goal (Mike Henderson). In between, the Bombers scored five unanswered including a pair by Olivier Proulx.
Friday, March 19 Toledo 5 at Cincinnati 3
The Storm jumped to a 4-0 lead with goals eight minutes apart in the opening frame. In the second, Erik Eaton scored his first professional goal to ruin Cory Campbell's shutout. In the first ten minutes of the third, the Clones scored twice on the power play (Mike Henderson and Gray Shaneberger) to pull within one goal of the Storm. The Cyclones went to the power play again with 2:52 left in the game. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, they couldn't convert and Kris Waltze scored into an empty net once the Storm returned to full strength.
Saturday, March 20 Johnstown 3 at Cincinnati 2
For the second straight night, one bad period was enough to doom the Cyclones. The Cyclones held a 1-0 lead throughout most of the game following a first period power-play goal by Phil Lewandowski. The second period did not produce a goal before Johnstown's Jason Noterman tied the game in the third with a power-play goal. Dean Stork evened the game for the Cyclones when he sent Malcolm MacMillan centering pass into the J-Town net. The Cyclones would hold a 2-1 lead until the final two minutes of the game when Dominic Forget and Larry Courville scored 37 seconds apart to secure the win for Johnstown.
Sunday, March 21 Cincinnati 5 at Toledo 4 Shootout
The Cyclones fell behind early as Jim Abbott scored at the 5:38 mark of the first. The Cyclones rallied back with three unanswered goals (Evan Cheverie, Phil Lewandowski and Jeremy Bachusz) to carry a 3-1 lead into the final period. In the third, the Cyclones continued a disturbing trend of surrendering a late lead. Toledo scored three straight just four minutes apart to take a 4-3 lead. Phil Lewandowski would even the game for the Clones with a shorthanded marker at the 19:06 mark of the third.
Lewandowski's late goal was his fourth goal of the week. After a scoreless overtime, Randy Petruk remained perfect (4-0) in the shootout as he stopped four of five Toledo shooters. Mike Henderson and Jeremy Bachusz scored for the Clones in the shootout.
